Texas Success Initiative (TSI)
Although the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is not an admissions requirement, all undergraduate students entering a Texas public college or university are required to comply with the provisions of the TSI by taking a basic skills test unless the student has provided official documentation of exemption from the test. Students attending orientation will not be permitted to register until test scores are received or an exemption is granted by the TSI office.
TSI approved tests include THEA, Accuplacer, Compass, and Asset. Texas Tech University offers the Accuplacer test in our testing center, Room 242, West Hall, (806) 742-3671. Students must arrive before 1pm in the testing center to test. Test results from the Accuplacer test are available immediately. Please note: It takes approximately 3 weeks for the school to receive THEA test results. If you take a THEA test, you must sign up for an orientation after test scores are received by Texas Tech University. To learn more about TSI compliance, testing, exemptions, or to take a practice Accuplacer test, please visit our website at www.reg.ttu.edu, click TSI.
A student who fails a portion of a TSI test must take a TSI Developmental Skills course in that subject each semester until the student either retests with passing scores or completes the required developmental sequence of classes. To learn more about TSI Skills Development, follow the link listed above, and then click “TSI Skills Development Office.”
